7 Ways To Make America A Better Place
I don’t usually talk about politics, but I’m motivated to do so right now… so I’m gonna. Actually anything that makes your life better falls under the “Strongerman” umbrella. Stronger mind, stronger body, stronger spirit, stronger life. It’s probably not for a training based business to talk about these matters, but I’m not a “correct” guy. I don’t mean that to be the “it’s cool to be politically in-correct” bandwagon. I mean that right is right and wrong is wrong and you ought to have the guts to stand up and say so.
I don’t ever purposely stomp on someone’s toes. That’s never the intention when I talk about God, or training, or whatever. So this isn’t meant to offend anyone, but I come from the old school and I believe that it’s a man’s responsibility to protect his family and those around him. Here are some ways that maybe we can help protect them.
1. Anyone convicted of more than one offense of an abusive or sexual crime against a woman, child or elderly person gets immediate, no parole, do not pass go, do not get out of jail under any circumstances unless God Himself opens the door, life in prison. One time might be a mistake. More than once… ain’t. Rehabilitation for these crimes is NOT in the cards. That’s why we’re hearing all the time on the news about some sex offender who has been let out of jail who has once again killed some child. Personally, I think those offenses should carry the death penalty, but I don’t think the majority of Americans would support it. I do however think the majority of Americans WOULD support life in prison under those circumstances. Even if it costs a little bit extra in taxes and frankly I don’t think it would once you figure in the costs of repeat offenders. (Parole programs, police costs, judicial costs, etc.)
2. Stop funding stupid crap. I hold nothing against anyone who needs a helping hand now and then. I have tremendous problem with cities and governmental institutions paying huge monies for idiotic artwork to decorate the front of a building that’s dedicated to the management of our country. Case in point, we have a huge monstrosity in the center of our city that was purchased by the city for “beautification,” at a cost of over $100,000 dollars. It’s supposed tribute is to volunteerism. In the words of our 9 year old, “It looks like it should be a tribute to the damage caused by hurricanes to our state, because it looks like it WAS something that got hit by a hurricane and that’s all that’s left.” I also have huge problems with them creating endowments for people who then use that money to basically crap on the American way of life. Free speech ought to be your right, but I shouldn’t have to pay for you to insult me.
I support people’s right to express themselves artistically or verbally, because that’s part of the great thing of living here, however, I also feel that those matters should be supported from private funding. Tax dollars should not go towards paying for “artistic” statements which are offensive to the majority of the public who paid in those tax dollars. That’s ludicrous.
3. Really represent what the people want. You know we usually get lousy turn outs for elections comparatively because we’re so used to the freedom that we no longer care about side issues so long as no one is personally infringing on us. But I believe the truth is that many things are decided by lawmakers that don’t actually represent the will of the people. They work like many other things in life. They represent whoever talks the loudest or makes the biggest stink even if they’re by far the minority opinion. Case in point, the supreme court recently ruled in favor of imminent domain for the government. That means if you own a piece of property and the local or state government believes it in the best interest of whatever, they can force you to sell it to them. Do you REALLY think the average American or the average citizen anywhere in the world wants to have that pushed down their throat? No way. All kinds of stuff like that happens, but it’s not the kind of thing that the average citizen really gets a voice in. Put issues that effect Americans to the vote. So what if we have to do it a little more often. You want to get people’s real opinion and see what they really think, a real “majority rule?” Make it open vote. Contrary to the opinion of many politicians we ARE smart enough to participate in our own government.
4. Follow through. Everybody understand that political promises are just that. All talk, no end action. I don’t know what the solution to this is but we need to force some kind of a follow through on our politicians and government. I’ll give you an example. Florida passed the lottery into law under the guise that a certain amount of that money would go directly to education and it would be a huge boost. Does it really get there? Many questions on that matter. I’m sure your state, or township or whatever the case may be, has some stories that parallel that same line. I absolutely understand that the political process itself stops them from accomplishing some of these things, but the things that are important… money for education, protection, etc., don’t need to be hung up by red tape, lies, bipartisanism, or flat out idiocy.
5. Run like a business. I understand that the factors effecting deficits and national products are not like those in a small business, but are they really THAT different? No. I can tell you this, if our business ran with the kind of spending that our government does it would last all of about 30 seconds. Yet we are constantly inundated with stories of kick-backs, over-spending, ridiculous budgeting… you know them. The books ought to have to match up. They certainly have to in civilian life of the average business. If they don’t, guess what… you go to jail! The same ought to have to happen in our governmental budgeting.
6. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Look, everyone has their own interpretation and I absolutely understand that, but let’s cut the crap. Creating loopholes so smart, but crooked people can get around wrongdoings, or allowing them to exist so that someone who actually hurt someone else doesn’t have to answer for it is idiocy. It’s an unfortunate, but given fact that there is a certain amount of people who will take advantage of that. We just shouldn’t tolerate it. It’s about equal with a kid whom is told, “Don’t eat a sandwich on your bed,” then is caught eating one on his brother’s and comes back with, “Well you only said not to eat it on MY bed, you didn’t say anything about anyone else’s,” as his defense. Now even though that’s a childish example, parents don’t let that kind of thing slide and it should be the same for adults who commit serious offenses or manipulate the law to hurt others.
7. Make real moves to invest in our children. There’s no reason we shouldn’t have world class education in all of our schools. If it takes more money or better management it CAN be done. It’s just an easy problem to sweep under the rug. The same should go for healthcare, and programs like social security. We can fix them, but we spend do much time arguing over who’s right that we can’t get it done. If we applied half of the high powered management, energy, information and techniques being used by our business sector leaders to actually solving our governmental issues we’d be there by now.
I fully support the American government and our way of life. I believe in America and that there is no greater country in the world (and to be honest, to those of you living in other countries I hope you feel the same about your own as patriotism is important). That’s not meant as an offensive statement (“Nyah… My country is better than yours!”), it’s meant to say that there are many people out there bashing America and I’m tired of it. This is still the greatest way of life on earth. And for everything that they complain about there’s 10 times the amount that’s good and just about America, but everybody can always improve.
These are common sense areas that we should improve on even though they may not be simple to put into practice. We should be always striving for improvement both in our country and in our personal lives. These are ways we can.
